Adult Learning

Available in the following locations:
  • Edinburgh and The Lothians
  • National

People who are deaf*, or experience any form of hearing loss, often struggle to access learning opportunities because of lack of communication support or deaf awareness on the part of the course organisers.

The Deaf Action’s Adult Learning programme is packed with learning opportunities. Our courses are great for skills development and career progression and offer a chance to have fun and meet new people. Our most popular courses and one-off events in the past have been:

  • Learning about your i-Pad
  • Drama
  • Digital photography
  • IT
  • Patchwork
  • Cocktail-making
  • Ghost tour

Interested in doing a course? Contact us to find out more about what we are running at the moment, including:

  • Driving Test Theory
  • English literacy (starting in January 2016)
  • Research your Family Tree

We plan our courses based on demand so if you would like to learn something then contact the Adult Learning Organiser (Leah Kalaitzi) and we will see what we can do.

All of our Adult Learning courses are delivered in BSL and usually by Deaf or Hard of Hearing tutors. We try to make our courses affordable and so the cost is always very reasonable.

Most of our courses run from our Head Office in Edinburgh – 49 Albany Street, EH1 3QY. However, we can also provide classes, as required, in other locations in the community. Contact the Adult Learning Organiser leah.kalaitzi@deafaction.org for more details.
